A number of years ago while I worked for Bell Labs,
I managed a software project that was partly done in the US,
and partly done in Bangalore, India.
I had the privilege to travel there on five separate occasions.
For my first few trips I was very self-conscious about being "the ugly American tourist" with a camera,
so I traveled without one.
However, on my last 2 trips I brought along my Nikon expecting to photograph the Indian railway.
I love trains, and the company I was working with there
arranged for some train travel while I was there.
However, I found the trains to be dirty and old and just not very artisticly interesting.
On the other hand, I found the people who rode the trains to be fascinating.
And everybody in India uses the railway system.
I found "people photography" to be an interesting change from my usual interests.
